Water-roots???

So a few of my plants have white strings coming out of the stems. From research and asking around on the forum they may be "water roots". I guess I cut out ferts too much once the hair algae came back.

My question, can I cut these off now that I've gone back to a regular dosing schedule or are these ugly white strings needed?

TIA.

You can cut them off, it won't harm the plant. The plant will also start shooting out these roots from the stems to areas that do not get a lot of light. They can be removed though. Some people just let it be. I personally remove them because I think it's ugly.

They are called 'adventitious' roots, you can cut them off. It is probably easier to switch to species that don't tend to grow these kinds of roots.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot".
