Plant Pearling Question

Is plant pearling supposed to be a good thing?
I brought a patch of HC yesterday and loosely planted them in bunch. (I think I didn't plant them correctly, might need to replant some of them)

4 hours later, tiny oxygen bubbles are forming everywhere on the leaf already!!!
Tank is 3 gallon with water filled half way only. Lighting is pretty high, with daylight 27W compact only an inch above water level.
No Co2 injection yet.

Can too much or too high lighting damage the plant or its growth?

Careful, you could get algae. But, pearling is a good sign.

There are different opinions on why plants pearl. Some people say that it is when the water is saturated with oxygen, and the plants produce oxygen during photosynthesis that cannot be dissolved in the water. But, in my opinion, that seems wrong. If that were the case, then the oxygen bubbles should form everywhere, not just on plants. I would go with Tom Barr's explanation that plants pearl when they have a high rate of growth. If your plants stopped pearling, it doesn't necessarily mean that they have stopped growing, but it does mean that it has slowed. Given the amount of lighting you have, I'd bet you don't have enough CO2 (and you might also be lacking in other nutrients as well.
