surprise eel!!

Sooo...Went to the LFS and bought a few bunches of Java Fern. I come home, put the plants into a plastic bin for an Alum bath, and a Freekin eel comes squirming out. Scared the S!$t out of me. Turns out to be a Tire Track Eel. I've read they get pretty long, up to 36". This one is about 6". Right now he is in my quarantine tank. Its been one day, and he's out and hunting for the blood worms i fed him. Its a beautiful fish, and i wish i could keep him. kind of reminds me of a Dachshund eating a biscuit, when he eats!

Question is.......... how long can i keep this guy, before he gets to big and starts eating up my cory's if i put him in my 30 gal.???

28gal.

unless you can feed him LIVE worms every few days, I would return him.
it takes Months of careful weening to get them off worms and onto dry food.
they are also nocturnal, and diggers that may disrupt a planted tank. If you
search around on PTF for eels you'll find plenty of testimonials on them.
I personally had a firetrack eel I ultimately returned since he was too much
trouble to live feed, and I seldom enjoyed seeing him active in my tank.
If you want an eel like fish in your tank, I suggest getting Kuuli Loaches.

how the hell did a 6 inch eel just hide in a bag with a java fern? also, when i get plants at stores, they tend to not put much water in. guess the guy/girl is lucky to be alive.
