smells?

What could possibly smell about our fish tanks?

My gf called me telling me that there was a strong, "chemically" smell coming from the fish tank. I couldn't think of anything that could possibly smell? I did a 50% water change 2 days ago. I have dry ferts and flourish comprehensive and it's bottle is capped. CO2 is pressurized. What could it possibly be? From the way she was reacting, she made it sound like it was overwhelming and intense. Mind you, this was a mere 1 hour after I left the house myself.

Should I be concerned about something or should I just chalk it up to the gf being overdramatic or smelling imaginary scents?

Could it be something other than the fish tank, and she is just assuming that is the source?

Also, electronic equipment could be causing the smell. I would suggest turning everything off until you can check it out further.

I told her to check the gas stove and oven, she said it was fine. She said she was absolutely sure it was coming from the fish tank, so I told her to flip the main power switch on the power strips and I'd check it out when I got home tonight (which unfortunately isn't til 11pm). Hopefully it's nothing major and hopefully it is just her imagining things. Maybe she put on some weird lotion hahah.

Sniff around your pumps, powerheads, filters, etc. Could be ozone, or a burning motor.

Ozone smells like a fresh, clean rain, right? So probably not that. I'l have to check my filter. Hopefully it's not a burnt out motor cause the thing's brand new!

Do you use Prime as your dechlorinator? I've heard lots of people complaining about its smell, including some in a very similar situation to yours. After looking around, they found out that the cap wasn't on securely.

Phantom smells can be a sign of brain tumors.

So she smells it but you didn't? Have her take a pregnancy test. Be tactful.

Ozone for sure does not smell like fresh clean rain. It's a bad smell. Sometimes, printers smell like ozone.

I'm interested to find out what it really is too. She's not home, so can't ask if it has made a difference. And if i get home and there's no smell, there's no proof of the smell and then I'm left with the question of whether I think she's smelling phantom scents or it just went away from the equipment being off. Apparently its a strong smell and came suddenly since I had only been out of the house for an hour. So if it's really caused by the equipment, my turning it on should recreate the smell fairly quickly. If not, I'll be working from home tomorrow so I'll find out.

I think she's going crazy but that's just me ::
