adding CO2 to established tank

I have pressurized CO2 and an inline diffuser. The tank is established with fish. As to not kill the fish how should I add the CO2?

Slowly? Not exactly sure what answer your looking for but add it in small increments until either your fish are gasping for air at the surface or your drop checker (if you have one) is a lime green.
