Brand new to planted tanks

Hey just wanted to say what an awesome website this is, its actually helped me out with quite a bit. Being that I'm just starting to get into this hobby I was wondering if anyone had any old equipment that they can let go of for a price that a struggling college student could afford? Also any tips on where to find good plants like:

Baby tears
H.micranthemoides
any good carpet style plant.

I live in the L.A area and the only real pet store around my home is a petsmart. And they have a total of two kinds of plants, neither of which look anything like any of the plants on this site.

thanks in advance,

Jayson

Welcome to the forum!

Check out the Swap & Shop section here. You may find what you are looking for or even post what you want.

Also, check out Local Pet Stores, Clubs, and Conventions and post in your area. You may find a fellow member who may help you out with plant clippings. I can't promise you it will happen, but it's worth a try.

glad to see someone else as new to this site as I am, unless you have med to med/high lights I personally would avoid the babytears. they grow faster that dandelions without strong lights and have weak roots/stems which eventually broke (within 2 months) and needed haircuts twice a week in my 29gal with 20 watt lighting grew an inch a day on average pain in my ass
