Val grew 4"+ overnight

So I've had Val in my tank for quite some time, but most of it died off and the remaining stems just sat there doing nothing for months. I recently got some new plants from a very generous member here and put them in the tank. A couple weeks later, I woke up to find some parts of the Val had grown over four inches taller in just one night. They've grown another 2-3 inches in the week since then. What is happening? Has anyone else experienced random, crazy growth spurts like this? I'm not really concerned (more excited), but I was wondering if anyone knew why it is happening. Could it be the Val competing for more light?

just what vals do when they grow. If they are jungle vals, they will grow like a weed. One plant will send out about 3-5 runners, each runner will send out 3-5 and it never ends if the nutrients are there. I love vals and cant wait to get a tank tall enough and big enough to see the full growth with out bending at the top on a jungle val!

I've experienced it with my H. Polysperma, and with the H. Poly. var. Sunsets before- I replanted some clippings into a tank that had DIY Co2 running on a hagen ladder and by the next night, so i guess, a day and a half, so i guess 36 hours, It had grown three inches.

Some of the other plants in the tank are Hygro Sunset, and I was just surprised to see the Val outgrowing it. Also, this is a low tech tank with no CO2 and only 1.33 wpg. I've never seen that kind of growth in those conditions before.

I have a 90 gallon corner bow tank that is 30 inches tall with jungle vals as a background plant. I use Eco Complete, CO2, and two 110 watt PC's and one 175 watt metal halide and dose fertilizers. So what does that do to the jungle vals? Well, they grow up and over the tank and start growing down again! I had to cut them off at the waters edge even in this tall tank. I let a few blades meander across the surface for appearance sakes. I lifted one long plant up to see how tall it was and it went up another 30 inches from the top of the tank! So I figure about five feet long! I love them still. I do need to restrict their growth, but they look great. The angelfish love to swim through them. But if you want to get a tank that they wouldn't reach the top of you would need scuba gear to plant them!
