Talking My new FREE nano cubes!!!!

A friend has gifted me with two FREE nano cubes. Given the dimensions, I believe them to be a 12 gallon and a 24 gallon. *Everyone do the happy dance with me*

The 24 gallon looks to be in working shape (I say this, but have ZERO knowledge of salt water tanks.)

The 12 gallon is missing the Ballast - so that definitely needs replaced.

I would really love to convert the 12 gallon into a freshwater. If anyone has any experience in doing so - PLEASE give me a shout.

I'll post a few pictures later of the 12 gallon.

Does anyone know if I could completely replace the lighting in one of these babies with a nice new freshwater friendly led fixture?

There is really nothing to running these tanks as freshwater. Just clean it real well and add substrate and water. May want to change the media in the middle chamber if it was used for saltwater.

Google the ballast. They are pretty common for failure and easy to find and replace.

As far as the lighting I retro fit a led fixture into the one I had. There are a ton of kits out there were the heat sink is made to screw right in place. I built a fixture for a nano reef that had 12 3 watt Cree leds. Grew SPS dimmed at 60% with great color and growth.

what brand are they? I believe its stevesleds.com that offers prebuilt retro kits for some of the more common bio cube type tanks. there shouldn't be any issues running either of these a freshwater tanks. only thing I can think of is maybe media.
