Looks pretty good. From a visual standpoint two different types of rocks usually don't work. I would group the rocks that are similar off center and build around that. What are the specs of the setup (light, co2, substrate)

That looks good. What kind of fish do you have in there?

Light fixture is 108 watts of T5 HO. Substrate is a layer of fluorite, seachem fluorish tabs placed on top of the fluorite, a layer of Eco-complete followed by a layer of Activ-Flora. The CO2 system is forth coming. Will be a pressure system with a solenoid. Currently just using Excel. I know, not adequate, but like I said.

The hopefully, carpet plant is dwarf hairgrass.

Currently the only fish are half a dozen platties for cycling purposes plus some shrimp as a small clean up crew.

Yes indeed. Just praying that I can figure out the science of a planted tank well enough to correctly foster the growing in process.

Is the big broad leaf grass-type plant in the back broad leaf sagittaria (Sagittaria platyphylla/Chilensis)? If so it looks emersed grown so don't be surprised if the leaves all die and the regrow looking different. I had a few in a low tech 10G and only one survived the transition from emersed to submersed growth, so keep an eye on it.
