New planted tank and fish

I will be starting up a 20 gallon planted tank.

I originally planned on stalking it with a harem of female betta but now i am not so sure i want just a single species of fish.

I have not even bought the tank and am still sorting out what i am going to do with it.

I plan on having a layering of Miracle grow organic soil topped with sand. i have no plans for the decor yet as I do not know what the store has to offer for me. I would like to get some mosses and a couple other species of plants.

Iam going to move the filter i have in my ten gallon into the 20 (the filter is good for 10-20 gallons )with an already thriving colony of happy bacteria and micro organisms for the new tank and put a smaller filter on the ten gallon.

I currently have two betta males in the ten gallon (with a divider) a group of 8 male guppies and three African dwarf frogs. The plants i have are two anubias (started with one, its divided) a bunch of java fern. what i think might be an arrow? a pair of little ones i forget the name of and something else i am not sure of!

Currently I am soaking some plain jane potting soil.

I got some black gravel to top the soil with and plan on doing a nice slope up the back.

Looks nice! That much soil should be fine, once capped. That slope in the back left corner is going to be tricky to keep sloped without something to hold it in place.

Cool!.

Keep it up. If you got any more questions. feel free to ask them away!

One Big tip! Some plants will not look its best right way. At times IME, it takes atleast 6 months - 1 year for it to flourish and make your tank look awesome.

IME my crypts did not take full cover till a year after being in the tank. After about a year my crypts started to bring out bigger leaves and one even shot out a runner. Weird eh.?

But yeh, just keep that in mind. At first it might not look so hot but, sooner or later it will. It is a waiting process.

I would like to share my 20 GAllon long:
- Crypt green sp.
- Staurogyne repens

Fish: February 25, 2014
- 4 female plakat bettas
-2 Siamese algae eaters

Update!: tank has been planted for 2 1/2 weeks now
Lighting: The blubs that came with the hood sucked! so i did a little DIY and hooked up one of my hydroponics lights up

first day:

Plant list:
Dwarf baby tears,Dwarf hair grass, Riccia fluitans, Steurogyne repens,
Crypt wendi sp green, Rotala rotundafolia (sp pink) Clover fern, Java fern, Anbias and i tiny bit of java moss and brazilian pennywort!

Livestock:
3 black skirt Tetra
3 Rummy nose Tetra
3 Forest halfbeak
2 lizard larch
1 rabbit snail

Day 4:

did a small amount of rearranging

Today:

Had to take out the dwarf baby tears as they just melted away. likely due to the lack of co2 system. will be purchasing stuff to make one this week as i finally get paid. Moved over what i think is a sword plant from my 10 gallon to this tank only to find out it was a mass of THREE plants, so now have them along the back! also moved the small unknown plant in there as well (both can be seen in my first post) . have an unknown plant in the front left corner which i got as a free rootball so curious to see what it grows into!
(my betta modeling it for you)

Added 2 killifish and a betta form my ten gallon. They seem to get along, the black skirt tetras bother the betta more then the killifish (looking to rehome the black skirts)
