Sudden pleco death?

I had a gold spot pleco in my planted tank for the last 6+ months, before that he was in my cichlid tank. He was well fed, very active, and about 3 months ago stopped hiding all day. This morning I found him dead and being eaten by my RCS. Any ideas what could have causes a perfectly happy healthy fish to die? I could not see anything wrong with him. All the other fish in the tank look great.

How old was he when you got him? Old age is an entirely possible means of death. Also possible is that he may have accidentally eaten something he wasn't supposed to have eaten...

That I am unsure about. Had him for a total of 2 years or so. Bought from a breeder. He was 4" when I bought him and reached his full size of 6" pretty quickly. Not sure what he could have eaten that the other fish have not. I would think that if anything was wrong with water quality the otos or RCS would have passed first.
