Rimless -- is it safe?

I know a bunch of people decided to not spend tons of money on an already-rimless tank, and just popped off the top rim of standard black-rimmed tanks. Is it true that the glass edge that the rim usually covers would slice up my arms every time I cleaned that tank? It's an interesting idea, but I don't want to get hurt by it.

Thanks!

No matter how hard you try, you cannot escape this hobby. You have been warned.

I've derimmed a few tanks. The glass edge can be pretty sharp. I've used 60 grit sandpaper very carefully to take the edge off. It's easy to do. I staple it to a piece of wood and sand at an angle. Gives enough control to not scratch the glass but knock the sharp edge off...

Its hit or miss if the newly exposed glass is sharp or not. I've de-rimmed almost 10 tanks and I've never had a sharp edge. But a quick bit of sandpaper will take off any sharp edge that may be lying in wait.
