Why do people end up using CO2?

a)Because they have ,or want to have lush vegetation(hey ,that plant looks cool ,I want to have that too!)
b)Because they want to have Big plants?
c)Because their plants don't grow healthy?
d)Because they have algae and think it will solve the problem?
e)Because they want a nice green carpet ,like they saw on internet pictures?
f)Because they read it helps with general plant growth?
g)Because the neighbor is using it ,and his tank looks way better?
h)Because they want to grow demanding plants and take the scape to some expo?
i)Because they got the latest LED hood and they need to keep up with it?
j)Because the LFS told him so?
k)Because the fine bubbles coming out the diffuser look cool and professional?
l)Because they think they are so far out in the hobby ,they need to try something new?
m)Because they measured with the latest infrared macrochip CO2 scanner and think they need more?
n)Because they read a lot about fishkeeping and aquascapes and they are confident about what they are doing?
o)Because it can't hurt?
p)Because plants really need it?
q)Because they bought the latest most complete fertiliser and need CO2 to get better absorbtion from plants?

This is all rhetorical ,conceived after a couple of beers.Feel free to add more if so you wish.

Methinks beer makes you cynical.

It's simple really: plants grow faster with extra CO2, some plants require it to flourish in an aquarium.

+1.

I thought the purpose of beer was to make one not think so much?

+2. 1 month into compressed CO2 so far and I am still amazed at the growth and lushness (if that's a word) of the plants.

The whole tank thing is a ruse. I actually use it to carbonate my beer.

I've always resisted CO2, but now that I'm getting into other plants that aren't literally weeds, I'm gonna need it. I want color and its hard to get vibrant color without it.

Actually, it's not necessary to grow most aquatic plants.

I might add one that is missing.
I am interested in gizmos and CO2 involved lots of decisions about gizmos.

I definitely agree, I ran low tech tanks with no problem.

CO2 does help though, it just sounds like his post wants to put down CO2 users (or rather people who use CO2 and don't know why). What if people using CO2 want to grow plants faster?

I didn't get the vibe that is was to start controversy, or the CO2 vs Low Tech.
Just see it as the musings of someone who got an early start on weekend partying. CO2 infusion is a big part of the hobby, and should be accepted-to each his own and the answer in a nutshell is to do what makes you happy

Yes, do what makes you happy.. Sorry I may have made an unfair accusation. When OP said he had 5 scientist to prove that CO2 use wasn't necessary I agree 100% but I also felt like he was putting down CO2 users. "Why do people end up using CO2?" Correct me if I am wrong. Everyone has their specific needs and what they want in a planted tank.
