It is old water, etc. IMO.

I have over 300 gallons of water in my living room and you cant smell a thing.

ikuzo, Is the tank in question kept at a higher temperature than the others? and you mentioned dead fish? That could be a source as well.

Try doing a small WC perhaps.

old food? sometimes when food gets dropped on the glass divider it gets really nasty and has that fishy smell.

Try increasing circulation, and perhaps be a little more thorough with the weekly cleanings. From my experience this happens when I neglect water changes, do poor cleaning, or have dead spots in the tank where crud can accumulate.

the tank is new, not even a month old IIRC. there's no glass divider so there's no old food. it's my rock + hairgrass tank so i can thoroughly check if there's any dead body there. circulation is good, probably too much though. those are the reasons why i got confused.

mistergreen probably right, i should check my ammonia as sometimes fish death still occurs within a week or so.

look under and around the stand for a fish or shrimp that might have jumped out. I know that got me once I could smell it and it only got worst everyday untill I found it on the floor behind the stand.

Whats this green fuzzy stuff thats growing in my tank.

checked that already, lol i should mention that it's the water that smells fishy

i'm gonna do a major water change first thing tommorow.

oh i forgot to mention that in this tank, i have a vortex reactor. and the CO2 bubbles spinning there won't mix together as a CO2 tornado. they keep their small bubbles shape and spinning that way, it's just like my water's viscosity is bad or something. really strange.

I suggest clean the substrate well. Warmer Waters, Plants and Substrate = smell.

Let me guess, Your tank is about one year old, planted and around 80 degrees. My wife calls it the swamp smell.

Charcoal would provide temp relief.
