RO water??

Great site! i am new to planted tanks and while the FAQ,s talk about things such as substrate, co2 injection, lighting etc. no one mentions water to start out with - is it recommended to use RO water in a planted tank to cut down on phosphates, silicates etc.? or is tap water OK? my water here in north east flroida is relatively soft, but the ph is 9+ and when i try and adjust it bounces right back up. i think the water company limes it - what do you recommend i do? TIA, john

Really depends on what fish (if any) you want to keep. All of my fish love hard water so I just use the garden hose and dechlor as I fill it.

I would like to keep small tetras - will the ph drop from the CO2 injection? will the plants have problems with the higher pH. although over time the ph will drop - i still have to do water changes.

thx again, john

I keep Neons and Serpaes in a tank that uses tap water at 7.8 PH that drops to 7.2 from Co2. They do fine.

125 Gallon AGA w/ Overflows
Filtration: Ehiem 2026 Filter, Dual "Ghetto" Overflow Internal Filters
Lighting: 1x96W Current USA CF - 2x96W Generic CF
Co2: Pressurized Co2 - Rex Grigg Regulator, SMS 122, and Rex Grigg Reactor.
Plants: Pogostemon yatabeanus, Foxtail, Bacopa, Egeria najas, Anubius, E. 'Ozelot Red', Ranalisma rostrata, Hornwort, Rotala Indica, Ludwigia Repens, Vals, Cabomba, Lilly, MoneyWort
