switching filters

I bought a Filstar XP1 for my 20 gallon planted tank. I'm switching from a bio wheel HOB filter.

How long should I leave the HOB running before I tear it away? a week? two weeks?

Thx

How old is the tank? And whats your bio load? If the tank is cycled and has lots of plants you should be fine. Just search the forum for more answers so your sure.

I'd say take a piece of the filter pad from the old filter and put it inside the xp1 to seed it.

Its is 6 months old. I think my bio-load is heavy. I have lots of plants.

You could seed the filter with old filter floss from old filter as mentioned before. But your tank should have plenty of good bacteria to be ok.

I wouldn't trust just switching filters, either take the pads and seed the new filter as mentioned above or just leave the old one on for a few weeks then remove.
my 2 cents
