CO2 harmful to fish...possible brain damage

When I hook up fresh batches of DIY co2 to my my tank(via cannister filter inlet) it seems my Discus swim wildly the 1st dy and then become more docile the 2nd and third day. Does to much co2 cause these symtoms in fish?

They are probably frightened of the bubbles and or a little CO2 drunk. Throw a drop checker in there to make sure its not reaching toxic levels.

cant be alcohol its only on the first day. Now on the 4th or 5th that could be a different storey the discus could be sneeking into the CO2 for a small drink.

From my understanding, the yeast is growing at the fastest rate within the first 24 hours. Maximum fermentation (thus C02 bubbling) is at its maximum the first 12-48 hours. After that, the yeast simply slowly breaks down, gradually declining in C02 production. Maybe the water has too much C02 the first few days, that's why your discus go all wonky.

A good description is here, except it's based on brewer's yeast. I'm not sure if it's any different.
