Is this flame moss?

Please tell me if this is flame moss.

http://picasaweb.google.com/chaznsc/FlameMoss

Its on a 1 inch square piece of mesh to give you some idea of its scale. I thought FM was thicker than this, more upright or something.

I'd say no, not Flame moss. A bit hard to be sure, but the Flame moss in my tank grows "curly", dense, and upright.

Yah. Doesn't moss take on their true form when tied down to something and grabs a hold of the object?

Flame moss has 2 characteristics that make it easy to identify;

- fronds branch off each other without flaring out into fans.

- fresh fronds always initially grow up toward the light.

fronds are NOT any thicker than xmas, taiwan, weeping, spiky.
depending on the tank, the fronds are actually a bit narrower,
as the micro leaves on each frond don't spread out as much.

I just wanted to post that i sold chaznsc the moss, which is flame moss grown tied to to wood and not floating. I suggest you dont tie it down like that as the parts that dont get light will get stringy and thin.

As for the portion, you may have gotten the wrong one by mistake. Send me a pm and we can make arrangements.

The moss was cut from this tank fyi

Chaznsc, you'll get the flame moss to grow better and denser if you spread them apart on the grid before tying them down. In fact, if you want the most even growth, cut the moss into 2 cm lengths, lay them parallel to cover all parts of the grid, then tie them down. After a couple of weeks, you'll see nice, uniform growth.
