EI question

Hey,

I have a quick question about EI. I just set up another plant tank, 50 gallon Eco Complete 2.6 watts of Coralife PC lighting. I will have CO2 on it soon, I was curious if I should go all out on the EI like 1/2 tsp Nitrate 1/4 Potassium etc.....or should I modify it? thanks for you help.

not sure if I can help but I use EI according to www.theplantedtank.co.uk. I follow it religiously. Use to have BGA, got rid of that with 4 day blackout.

I use to dose Dennerle E15, V30, S7, Plafezend (forgot how to spell it) Gold etc . . Wasn't impressed with them.

With EI the planted started to perk up, still have some algae here and there but its getting better week by week.

I have deponit as a substrate (wouldn't reccommend that to anyone now), with a Dennerle cable heater which I have permanently turned off after reading comments here.

The tank will tell You. May sound kind of stupid--but that's how it works.

How soon on the C02? Presurrized or DIY? You are probably going to have issues regardless with the 2.6wpg without the C02--so, that needs to be setup. The photoperiod can have a direct effect on this--so, shorter may be better until you get the C02 going.

MO: just start out with the EI sticky and then adjust from there over time. If things are ok, then you can adjust the dosing downward until an issue starts to show up. If You have one or more issues--may need more ferts or more C02--or both.

Planted tanks talk. We just have to learn how to hear them.....

I currently use EI on my other tanks....I havent done a tank with this low of a wpg in a while. I was just curious if I should modify the dosing right now or wait a little bit and see what happens. As far as CO2 goes, I will be using pressurized, and that should be set up by early next week. I might just throw a few DIY CO2 bottles on there for the time being....or could I use excel? Thanks for you help.

Actually, You could probably get by with about 2/3 the recommended dose. On my ~2.3wpg tanks I have dosed EI, but only 2x/wk and it works well. That's with C02 though.....

Personally, I think its a safe bet and a better idea than not dosing it. A few plants are excel senitive like vals, anachrias, etc, but not many.
