Duckweed Solution

I have a duckweed FIX. It consists of two words

SHOP VAC

Yup, I have a small 2 gallon SV and taped a smaller 3/4" filter hose to the intake, and it SLURRRPPSSS that duckweed right up! It takes me a couple of "visits" to the tank to get it all, but I have successfully wiped it out in two tanks. It gets those annoying pests hanging out in the corners, it just cannot hide!

Just be careful with those top dwelling fish, I have to chase my endlers from the intake, silly fish.

That's a pretty brilliant idea, I have a lot of issues with duckweed. Now, I just need to figure out how to chase all my shrimplets out of the duckweed.

I like my duckweed. I like to think of it as extra fish wastes that I can just scoop off the top of the tank.

also, my fish seem to like hiding under it.

Sorry, but give it a month or two and that tiny spec that You missed up between the glass and the top frame--will start it all over again.

I use comet goldfish instead of a shop vac, but the end result is the same.....

That stuff's a plague........

Ditto what Naja said. I'll bet you missed a piece somewhere, and it will come back to haunt you again. Ha, ha, ha, ha.

No, seriously, I hope you got it all. I'd do the same thing, but that would require lugging the shop vac upstairs and I'm just too tired for that.

Stay with it for a few days, you can get it all. Anyhow, it slurps it up quickly, which still beats netting it.

Honestly: stay with it for a month or two at every WC and You might beat it. The stuff is amazing. It will stick somewhere and dry up, but once it gets wet again--it starts all over! Sheesh! If You keep at it--You'll beat it, but don't let Your guard down for a while.

The Goldfish work 24/7, and I've left them in there for a +month after "its all gone"--nope, no such luck!

I tryed the shop vac thing tonight and I have to say that I ended up getting about 99% of it. I will give it a couple more days and then do it again and hope that I got it all. Plus I will do that at my WC also.

Whats this green fuzzy stuff thats growing in my tank.
