15 Gallon Tetra LED Complete - can I grow plants?

Odd. No specs on the lights. The box implies you can grow plants but it doesn't give any information other then it uses 5 watts (not the output) and lists plants as an additional option. Lighting is my weak point so tell me what I'm missing.

Also - Tetra has a website that has the 10 and 20 Gallon LED listed but not the 15 Gallon. They mention in their Q &A that you can't grow plants in their 10 and 20 gallon models (with the hood LED lights). So is the 15 Gallon the same?

Does this mean the lighting is suitable for plants

or do they mean the plastic variety? Misleading to newbies like me.

You might be able to get away with low light plants like anubias and java fern/moss. Anything more demanding will need a light upgrade.

It looks bright when I turn them on (though that doesn't tell you much I know) and the good thing is it's less then 12" from lights to the substrate surface so that's good. It's a gamble though.

I think the box is talking more about plastic plants.

Its .333 a watt per a led diode that has no optical lenses to help. Really low light plants. Looks like you need an upgrade. Most all in ones have lights only suitable for low light plants. After buying two all in ones I wont again. My evolve is decent but the light sucked when it worked. That thing has been flickering since it was two months old.

I skimped on the FW tank because I plunked down a good bit on my reef tank about a year ago (I'm married....and have way too many hobbies/interests for my own good). Just added the plants and the water today. Time will tell. Will upgrade soon and the only plants I got today were low lighters.
