LOL, yea, I went planted because with a new old house, and a child on the way I thought a reef would be too expensive, and too much work.

Ahaha. Surprise ! Actually it can be done comparatively inexpensively if you go low-tech (notice I said comparatively,) but that does limit somewhat the plants you can grow. I've got a little ten-gallon that I never do anything to other than occasionally rip out some Java moss and do a top-off. The light on it is a DIY made from an 18 watt trouble light picked up from Wal-Mart for 10 bucks. No algae. No issues. No problems. And then the 55 has the whole nine yards, pressurized CO2, UVS, gigantic Eheim filter, fert routine, etc., etc. I don't even want to know how much I've got invested in that tank!

Yet every time I look at reefs I convince myself they're too expensive (never mind the learning curve,) .
