What is this white sheet film?

Just saw this today coming out of my canister filter. It's a new tank still cycling. Only thing I've done is add driftwood, stones and pool filter sand.

How long has your canister filter been in use?

It appears to be some biofilm that has accumulated on the canister filter tubing. It is harmless, though perhaps a bit displeasing to the eye.

I would say it's been running for a week. Will it disappear on its own? Or do I need to remove it? It's on every branch if my driftwood now.

Once you stock the tank, it'll go away. It's a normal occurrence with new driftwood.

If you look carefully, it does not appear to be white fuzz that is growing directly on the driftwood, but appears to be sheets of biofilm that has wrapped itself around the driftwood (hence my guess that it was from the canister filter tubing).

Thanks for the replies! This is the first canister filter I've ever owned so not sure if that's the norm. On the plus side, the filter has become really silent now. When I first turned it on, I was pretty disappointed that it made noise that was very audible. Now my tunze nanostream makes 5x more noise than the eheim ecco.

Yea I don't believe its the typical fungus/mold that grows on new driftwood, the edges look to "strait" and is in only certain spots. have you tried taking it out? Just looks like some plastic film?

the noise was most likely air in the canister,,, but the film should go away with time

I tried taking one, and it turns to mush. in the water it gets pushed around like a plastic bag, but out of water it turns to slime.
