Zoomed 501

When people say they are using the Zoo Med 501 canister on a fish tank, are they talking about the one marketed for turtles?

I'm seeing them all over the Internet for about $40

Thanks for commenting.
Hmmm, I'm skeptical of this...

Anyone else have any input?

There's a turtle one and a nano one and they are both the same thing.

I've been looking into nano canisters for the past couple of days, and I believe the difference between the turtle and the aquarium versions is that the aquarium one comes with a spray bar.

People are too often merely stating an assumed truth from flawed observation.

Yes, as I look into this closer. I found that you are correct.

Actually, the Zoo Med Nano 10 is for nano aquariums and the Zoo Med 501 is for turtle aquarium.

Sounds like everyone here using the this canister gets the 501 because its cheaper and provides the same results.

I have the turtle 501. It came with the spraybar and optional flow diverter. Pretty sure the Nano 10 and the 501 are same filter. Just a different box.

Yup, same filter. I bought the 501 after reading the specs on the nano 10. It appeared to look and operate identical. Not a bad little filter except when you're trying to bleed the air out.

The nano 10
The Turtle clean 501

Look at the model numbers. The nano 10 is TCN-30 the 501 is listed as TC-30...(typo I think). I bought the 501. My model number on the filter is TCN-30. It came with the spray bar as well.

I think zoo med is now correctly marketing the 501 as a nano filter . It was vastly undersized as a turtle filter. I have no issue bleeding the air out of mine, there is a tube on the inside of the filter just for that purpose. You do have to fill the filter all the way before turning it on.

I bought mine at Petco in store about 6 months ago. If I remember correctly it was around that that $60 price. $28 is a GREAT price.
