I have a yeast reactor that I am running on my tank and I cannot get it to slow down. It puts out more than a bubble a second. It is a gallon container with 2 cups of sugar, a 1/2 teaspoon of yeast, and a tablespoon of baking soda. It is dropped my pH to about 6, so I made another did the same thing. Does anyone have any ideas?

How big is the aquarium? -- a one gallon generator is pretty large.

You can reduce the volume of the generator, go to a 2 liter bottle.

You can use less yeast and /or sugar.

You can make the reactor or diffuser less efficient, maybe, depending on what you are using.

You can blow off more CO2 by increasing surface agitation, aim a spray bar towards the surface or lower water level to allow a HOB to waterfall a bit.

Try using less sugar. I don't know a whole lot about planted tanks yet or DIY CO2, but I have done my share of homebrewing.

What type of yeast are you using? I know that the yeast used in making beer/wine will multiply as it feeds (on sugar). I would think that bread yeast would do the same. If you want to test this theory out....when your next batch of DIY CO2 goes dormant, try adding more sugar and see if it doesn't start bubbling again.

I would definately cut back on the sugar first and see if it helps.
