plastic siding? Ok to remove?

Just was given a 29 gallon tank with the oak plastic trim. Is it ok to set it up without the plastic trim...not a huge fan of the oak look?

Will it be sturdy without it?

I've taken off the top trim from AGA and custom tanks, and have put together trimless, braceless tanks from hardware store window replacement glass. BUT BUT BUT BUT these tanks have all been shallow (ranging from 8 to 18 inches tall but with glass that is thicker than it needs to be).

If it's a 29 gallon AGA tank, then I would highly suggest not taking off the trim. The tank is too tall to be able to withstand removing the trim. It will cause too much pressure on the glass and cause the water to end up all over the floor.

Another alternative is to mask off your trim and spray paint it. Krylon Fusion is inert and will not harm your fish.
