Petsmart has increased their prices?

Has anyone noticed that petsmart has increased their prices on filters lately. The store prices seem to be higher but my big gripe is that their website prices have significantly increased.

I have used their website pricematching several times but it looks like that time is no more.

In the past I have bought several AC50 for $18, now they're $30.
I paid $99 for my XP3 and now it's $150.
XP1 bought a few months ago for $60, now $85.

There are a few other examples where the markup is now 50% or more over what I remember.

I suppose I will be taking my business elsewhere from now on.

Regards,
Robert

That is only store specific. It all depends on the manager if they will price match other vedors

Yes as far as I know, they are only required to match their own website.

If the advertised price online is better than the in-store price, print out a copy of the webpage with the date and everything on it and take it in to the store. I believe there is some "truth in advertising" law that requires them to accept that price. Works for me with Radio Shack and Best Buy at least.

The point I am getting at is that the online prices have been significantly increased and no longer present a bargain over normal in store prices.

I think it may not be just Petsmart. Perhaps the manufacturers are raising their prices? I checked the price for an Aquaclear 30 at Petsmart online, Drs Foster and Smith, as well as Big Al's. The price differences were only .50 cents.

Two years ago I use to pay $2.89 for a gallon of milk; just paid $3.69 today! I think it's foolish and wishful thinking that these increased gas prices are not going to cause steep inflation with everything.

Wow yeah the XP3 did go up to $150 yikes. Maybe they had to make up for selling them at $75 earlier this year... or that huge UV sterilizer blunder... or the Eheim aquaball blunder... geez seems like I really got some good deals from them this year!

Glad I bought my XP3 a few months back for under $100. Looks like those times are no more. I'll make sure I take good care of it...

I work at the LFS in town, small stores. Now big companys are increasing prices that they sell products to the big places... petsmart, online, petco... etc, because everyone small business is complainging because the big companys are "killing the business" So thats why in the past few monthes, certain UVS's have gone up 50% price online, filters are dramatically increasing. Good for LFS's bad for peopel trying to save money.

That does kinda suck. Still $89 for an XP3 from Big Al's though:

They should instead lower the costs they offer to the smaller/independent fish stores. Or the small guys should get together and form a buying consortium of sorts and insist on better pricing that way.

Petsmart has also started to pull out of the live plant arena - opting for the plants in a tube instead. They seem to be turning to the under-educated mass-market of hobbyist who like to spend $30 on a sunken boat to set in their blue gravel... Not a radical move for them though.

no. its not store specific. its a company policy. if you look on the wall near the register there is a large petsmart sign that states their price match policy. If a manager gives you problems point to that sign, if they still give you a hard time take their name and find out the store number and give cooperate a call. they will probably be in trouble or get fired.

I'll have to look at this policy next time I'm in there, I've never been in one that will pricematch online vendors other than their own online prices (they will match local retailers though).

Today I printed out Big Als price on the Rena air 300 and took it into my local Pet smart and they price matched it with no questions asked.

Pet Smart online price $35.99
Pet Smart in store price $39.99
Big Als price $29.99

Saved $10.00 off the in store price. And I gotta tell ya this is a silent air pump!

Theres a 20-30 difference on XP2's from big als though.

I have a printout of an xp2 from petsmart site for 65 bucks, but its from April(never got around to using it.) Do you guys think they'll still match the price even if its old?
