I thought I had the ID down after reading up on apple snails. My snail (the big adult one) is golden in colour, about 1.5-2 inches long with a globose shell. If you look at www.applesnail.net
the picture on that web page looks just like my snail.
But it doesn't have a snorkel.
So after a while it had "babies" but I didn't see any eggs. Then I though "a-HA! live bearing!" So after some research I labeled them as Viviparidae live bearing snails.
BUT...after giving one of my big snails to my girl friend's small 5 gal tank it layed eggs! Small ones that I couldn't detect inside my 20 gal hex (I still can't see them!).
Argh. So now I have no idea what they are. Any thoughts? The babies tend to munch on my amazon sword (it's just barely hanging on) and I've tried "traps" with lettice with no sucess. I'm not interested in killing them but I want to ID them so I can think about introducing them to my small 5 gal hex tank that I'm setting up for planting. I don't want plant eating snails in that tank!
These snails do not burrow and are active in the day (and night I guess). I can take pictures but I don't have any place to host them.
Thanks for any help.
