Exclamation help ID this bug please.

Hi,
Found a bug when I was removing shrimp from a fairly new setup.
I got new wood and plats so it must have came in with them.
Rather big for the amount of time.
Anyway does anyone here know what this is:

Eggs are laid in driftwood.

Better find it, they are hunters, and will enjoy fish fry and shrimp young.

I suspect in came in with a Dwarf Tiger Lotus.
I did not remove the Rockwell or fiberglass around the roots and I think it was in there. The drift wood was sand blasted and very dry so I dont think it came in that way. I may be possible. I let the LFS owner know.
He suspects plants as well.

I caught it any way.
It is kinda neat. I keep it in a goldfish bowl now.
I have a free pet!
I want to see for myself if it will eat baby guppies and small cherry shrimp.

Thanks for the help ID-ing it folks.
It was very shocking to say the least at first.
I will call it Smaug from the book the hobbit.

I've seen one out in the pond munching on a large ramshorn snail, so I'm sure if given the chance they will eat small fish and shrimp.

Wink

I kept it in a bowl and added some young cherries. I didnt see it eat them but they dissapeared.
Also I searched everywhere in my tanks and found another. I put it in the bowl. One of the larvae killed and ate half of the other larvae.
I have heard they will eat shrimp and I have no doubt that it is true.

I'm not sure if it was with a plant but I kinda suspect that it came inside a piece of mopania, not sure if thats spelled right, driftwood. The piece had a hollow spot inside and took some time to get water logged. Now I think of it I am fairly sure it cam in the wood although most say plants where more likely.

I havent added wood or plants since to my tanks. I really dont even plan on buying from fish stores anymore for several reasons I wont go into.
