Depends on the plant load and the lighting. I test and dose my 55 gallon tank three times a week.

I check my no3 and po4 levels daily. I am still trying to find that right balance. As soon as things level out ill probably check every other day-only because im paranoid.

also i have chucks calculator, but was wondering if there is any chart or program that tells you exactly how much to add to acheive the desired level. using chucks tells you what you get if you add that much, be nice if you can enter the data backwards to tell you what to add.

I add ferts at water change and mid week. Mid week I add traces and no3 and po4 as needed after I determine levels from testing. I also add iron daily, I hate doing the iron this way, but if I add the full amount as suggested, I get a haziness in the water. KH 10, and a lot of iron don't mix well.

Hey Rex, What N and P test kits do you use? How much do you trust them? Thinking of getting lemotte kits for N and P.

Thanks!

I use Red Sea and trust them. But I go through them pretty fast too. If you got the cash for LaMotte go for it.

I started dosing N,P,K a few weeks ago after being afraid that P ans N would make my hair algae problem worse. After listening to the guys in this forum and then dosing, the algae left- like immediately. It was amazing. Anyway, I would test each day to start so you know where you are and no how much more you need to dose. After a while you will get a feel of what to do without the daily testing. As far as test kits, I have Lamotte as that is what I have left over from the reef tank days.

I test 3 times a week...dosing NPK as needed. most days I add a little flourish, about 1mL, to my 75gallon.
