Fertilizers and Excel

I've heard that certain fertilizers (like excel, but also trace elements) are deadly for shrimp and snails and more delicate fish. Can anyone clarify which ones and what they do? Thanks.

Copper is definitely a no-no with inverts.

I have doubled the recommended dosage of Excel for a month with both RCS and CRS with no deaths, but you need to be careful.

I have dosed Excel every day for nearly a year and have had no RCS casualties.

I have heard that dosing Excel in a low-plant load can kill RCS. Mine have never shown a sign of discontent - though when I dosed Excel it was in a heavily-planted tank...
