is this the filter that everyone uses to clear cloudy water from the tank?? with a special diatom filter powder or something? If so, it's in my town and a real decent price

Nope, that is a magnum canister filter. However, you can use micron cartridge (especially for magnum use) to clear the cloudiness in your tank. It does work, but that is only a temporary solution. What cause the cloud in the first place ?

Yes you can use this filter as a diatom filter. You would need to purchase the micron cartridge (runs about $6 over here) and some diatomaceous earth, which is sold cheaply in swimming pool supply stores.

I don't know if this is what everybody uses... I have a HOT Magnum 250 for this purpose. Same company, similar solution. There are dedicated Diatom filters that are more expensive than the Magnums.
