Also what size tank, how much light, any CO2 injection, how heavily is it planted? By the way, your KH (if your measurement is in dkh, is too hard).

Definitely get your nutrients balanced... Then, maybe try a few (or a bunch - depending on your tank size) Amano or Tiger Shrimp? http://www.azgardens.com has them both...

Just a thought. :-)

You can grow plants at kh13. I live in florida, and springs are full of plants in what is essentially liquid rock, as far as kh goes. Make sure you get your co2 in the 20-30 range, if you are not supplying it, supply it, it will make a huge difference. Also, as Ken said, how much light do you have? It really is a matter of balance. To paraphrase Tom Barr, give the plants what they need, the rest will fall into place. Also, you do need some 'clean-up' crew, if you don't. Ottoes, sae, shrimp.

The water paramenters and the CO2 system and lighting are ok. Also so are your nitrates and phosphates. Are you maybe dosing any micro nutreints? How about water changes. If you don't have any Amano shrimp and true SAE's you need to get some.

often times, hair algae (the long, 2 inch thread like stuff) is caused by too much iron in the water column. if you're dosing iron ferts, cut back. iron is a trace nutrient...a little goes a long way.
