I can't believe it, and I really probably shouldn't comment so soon. If you remember from my previous post about losing the war on hair algae, I came home from work tonight and I can't belive it. Where did it go? I'm not talking about a little bit of hair algae, I mean I had a 75 gallon tank full of it. I did a 25% water change yesterday and dosed iron, potassium, flourish, and KN03. I held back on the phosphate and I will add some this evening as the level is zero. Actually I had the phosphate level close to zero over the last few days but kept the nitrate at around 5.0 ppm.

The only thing that I do see now that I don't like is some green spot algae on some leaves, especially on the Marble Queen and one of the Hygro species (don't know which one). Any ideas about this kind of algae? It is not that bad right now and I would take this in an algae trade any day over the hair algae.

It's pretty common to 'trade' algae's as your tank reaches balance. I've seen tanks switch from BGA, to BBA, to green hair algae, to nothing over a couple weeks. That was a major shift in the tank when I went from moderate light, to high light, to high light with CO2 injection. It's a great feeling to watch it all fall into place.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer.

It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot".

Ken, I had the exact same experience when I finally defeated hair algae in a problem tank. The disappearance was almost overnight--quite incredible. Keep doing what you're doing.
