PMMD ? with discus ?

ok im not really sure where do put this so ill put it here.

anyways im going to start dosing PMMD in my 75 gallon discus tank ive gotten some help with dosing (non PMMD) due to how sensitive the discus are here is what i was told..

1/2 teaspoon KNO3 after each water change, add 1/8"tsp of KH2PO4, 1/2 teaspoon GH booster

Now im not really into all the work i have to do to with 3-4 different chemicals so having it all in one sounds like a plan to me

i know with the discus i should start out at about a half dose and watch their behaviour.

i was just wondering what i need to know about dosing PMMD ? how much to dose ? can i dose it dry ? How much will a pound of PMMD last when im doing a half dose and 3 waterchanges a week ? IS there any risks or important things i should now about for dosing it ?

if someone could give me an article or help me directly that would be great.

First thing to realize is you are NOT dosing PMDD at this time. Nor should you dose PMDD. PMDD is an outdated concept that put forth the idea that limiting phosphates in the aquarium would limit algae growth.

You can however mix your dry stuff together and dose it that way. But that's not PMDD.

I fail to see how while doing three water changes a week it's a lot of extra work to dose three dry nutrients. Must take a whole.....30 seconds. Get a couple of sets of measuring spoons, they cost no more than $1 a set. Leave the correct spoon in each jar. That saves ya time.

Gilly,
I have had my 75 Gal Discus running for nearly 3 yrs. It is well planted(heavily) and somewhat overstocked(6 adults=5"; 1 runt;2 big angels and 3 clowns)
I have used 3/4 tsp kno4,<1/4 KH2PO4 mixed in 1/2 gal h20.
I add macros @ change and 20 ml csm+b evry other day. Simple EI
I do a 60% water change every 5-8days straight out of tap using Prime.
Havent lost a fish;little algae(spot)
Discus are more tolerant than we are led to believe.
Stable conditions and clean water(plants)
I have also made a habit of doing gravel vacumn at change.

Greg Watson is no longer in the fertilizer business. It has been sold.

Potassium nitrate will raise nitrates and potassium
Potassium sulfate will raise potassium
Mono potassium phospate will raise phospates
Plantex CSM is traces

Magnesium sulfate will supply magnesium. You can have high GH and still need magnesium. I decided not to sell magnesium sulfate as you can get it at any drug store.

As far as how much you need? I would go with the following.

2 lb KNO3
1 lb K2SO4
lb of KH2PO4
of Plantex CSM

Clicky thing.
