I just got some giant hygro from AzGardens but when it got here it looks more like sunset or green hygro. Size wize and color wize. Does it always look like this when it is young. I want it to look like this

Sounds like a replacement...though there are all sorts of "giant hygro" from what I've seen on websites and such. I guess the biggest tell would be the stem--is it green or brown and woody? If its brown and woody (like the one in the picture) then it is what you are looking for (I think its hygro siamensis in the picture).

Then again, I'm no expert...

Actually, I think what you want is hygrophila corymbosa. Not so sure...but if you look around on the web, there are many species of plant that are commonly labeled "giant hygro".

Its possible that you got an emersed growth plant (which could look like regular green hygro AFAIK), or they sent a replacement of green hygro because they were out of the giant hygro...

Stick it in the tank and see what happens...its all any of us can do when we get a plant order in the mail (its like opening a birthday gift...never know what you're going to get).

Yeah the Giant Hygro's stem is a lot thicker, more rigid and straighter than Hygro polysperma. Sounds like they might have made a subsitution on you.
