No Lids ?

I noticed while viewing many of the Tank Journals that a lot of the tanks don't have any kind of lid on them.

I was wondering what if any problems people have had with fish jumping out ?

I have had a few shrimps and fish jump out. You have to beware not to have jump happy species and not to feed floating food that promotes airborne behaviour.

I have 2 topless tanks and I've had only 1 fish jump out. I don't keep any notoriously jumpy fish though.

My 40 is topless, and any fish or shrimp that doesn't like it, is free to leave at anytime. I have an aquarium not an Aqua~prison. I'm firm believer in Darwinism. I'm only interested in keeping fish & shrimp smart enough to stay in the tank.

My dog checks the floor around the tanks daily. Flying amanos are a huge
treat.

All 7 of my tanks are open top. I think I'll cover some in the new future, but yea, I've definitely had fish jump. I had a fish jump out of the 55 gal in the upstairs loft, clear the railing, and land on the bottom floor. Talk about a shocking midair realization. Loss a bunch of Cardinals over a couple weeks in my rimless until I lowered the water level about an inch. Also a couple CRS.

Cool,

Well I suppose that any fish could jump out but why would they want to if they have the sweet life in the tank.

My dog loves crunchy seafood too!

I keep open tops too, never really had much of a problem. The ones that do jump learn their lesson and no longer cause any trouble.

People might take off the lids for photo shots as well.

At home there's a lid; two reasons. One the cat. Two, too much light was reflexed off the glass and lit up the room in a way my wife didn't care for.

Work tank, gets a lid but only to control the evaporation

You can use an eggcrate as a lid
