New tank help!!!

Hey guys,

I've just bought a new tank its 3 gallons and I believe it is running 15w lights.
http://www.marinedepot.com/JBJ_Cubey...FIAQNC-vi.html

I'm planning on growing a nice HC carpet.

What substrate should I use and I'm planning on not running pressurized co2 due to my tank being so small, but using co2 liquid like excel.

I was thinking of getting Eco Complete but reading mixed reviews on growing HC in it, I'm abit confused...

ADA aquasoil has worked extremely well for me. It was a little cloudy at first and it had a protein film on the surface I had to get rid of with a water change, but its only 18 - 20$ (free shipping from ADGshop.com). Has a great amount of nutrients for your plants.

ADA "normal" aqua soil or the powder one?

Make sure you run a strict schedule with excel dosing. I think those lights put you in high tech category and no Co2 might lead to algae problems. You might also have to dose ferts. I have Eco complete in my 5.5 and am not impressed.

I would recommend just ADA Aquasoil - Amazonia Normal type. The powered type is meant to go ontop of the normal type to create a smoother look and to make planting easier, but one 3L bag of normal type should be more than enough! You can get the power sand and powered type later on if you want to be a perfectionist and spend a good chunck of cash.
