So I know this has been done many times before. I've read a bit about it.

To keep thing short, I'm planning on re-doing my 16g somewhat marginal.

The plan is to tear it apart today, set it up with a high 'shelf' on the left then deeper on the right. The whole tank will be dirted. I'm going to seed and cycle the tank with the 2211 I already have running then plan to drastically lower the water level and switch to a Mini Elite with the sponge removed. Lighting will be 2x24w T5H0.

Plants will be many.(great in numbers, limited variety)
Thinking of just having shrimp in there for now.

Any thoughts comments or advice would be appreciated.

I just went filterless in my 30 long on Saturday. It's been setup for about 5 months and is heavily planted, low tech. Everything is fine so far. I'm interested to see how it goes.

Do not underestimate the role of floaters and marginal plants.
