Emergency: Heater Catastrophic Failure/Tank Blow Out

Catastrophe Strikes!

I had a catastrophic failure of the heater due to I moved it higher in the tank and forgot to turn it off before changing water. It was above the water line for too long and blew up in 2 pieces. Yes it projectile itself into the wall.

There's glass EVERYWHERE outside and inside the tank.

Can I salvage the HC Cuba somehow? Or do I need to start over? Luckily there's no livestock yet...

Anytips (FAST) will be appreciated.

Ouch. That's no fun.

If your plants are alive, why wouldn't you be able to salvage them?

What about all the microscopic glass embedded in the plants and substrate?

I forgot the brand but it was an old external control, titanium heater.

Wtf?! I have never seen anything like that happen before. I've seen a glass heater crack but never saw one explode with such force. That is freaky to say the least.

I hope you didn't loose too many aquarium inhabitants.

No fishy in tank.

Well get the tank brightly lit and harvest the HC. Throw it in a bucket and fill it with water. Pretty soon most of the glass should be at the bottom, the rest wash it in your sink. Thats the best I can think of.

Dang the explosion looks serious. Good thing no one was around.

As long as your parameters are okay, you should have little if anything to worry about.

Glass shouldn't break like that.

Tempered glass at the bottom wouldn't break like that. But the sides aren't tempered glass...

The glass wont harm anything unless you get corys or something that would hover over it all the time and didnt know it. but at how your HC has grown in, it would cover it up and nothing would happen in no time. Looks like you have it under control though. sorry for that, bet that must have scared the crap outta you when it went off.
