Require absolutely silent lighting for planted tank

Hi everyone,

I currently light up a 10 gallon with an Amazon Sun Kessil LED light.
It's great, and all the plants are growing very well, including some
lilaeopsis mauritiana that has successfully started growing new blades.

Now, the problem. The light has a little fan built in which emits a high frequency noise that I cannot hear, but bothers my wife and gives her headaches. She's tolerated it for months, but I finally got an ultimatum that I must get rid of the tank or she'll go crazy.

This is something I would like to avoid, but I understand how a persistent high pitched noise can make life unbearable.

I need your help! Can anyone recommend a LED-based lighting solution that
is bright enough, full-spectrum, and is absolutely silent? Perhaps it has passive cooling like a heatsink? It's for a 10 gallon, but if it can later be transferred to a bigger tank, that would be a bonus. I guess since the tank is relatively small, I'm probably going overkill with an Amazon Sun (it was originally part of a 20 gallon hex).

I've kept the lights shut off for now, but soon the plants will start reacting to the lower light.

Regards,
Victor.

Why not replace the fan with a quiet one?

Why not just use traditional florescent tube lighting like t8 or t5? Spiral cfl bulbs could work too. You're not saving any electricity with that 32w kessil light on a 10 gallon.

My Odyssea T5HO is cheap, works great, has no fan, and looks decent. It gets a little warm but not so much that it worries me.

Check out buildmyled. They have a great preconfigured selection or you can custom order one set up the way you want. The optional dimmer is nice too.
