Driftwood Austin or Online

I am having a tough time finding driftwoods in Austin. I did visit Aquadome and Fish Gallery. Yes Aqua Dome is cheap , but they have big ones and not many collection. Fish Gallery is way expensive.

I am looking for thinner driftwoods like in the below link.

or is there a place I can naturally collect aquarium safe driftwood?

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Gokul

You can have a look around the woods.....just look for hard woods that have been dead a while. If you can easily leave a fingernail impression it is probably too soft. Avoid sappy woods like pine. Only problem may be weather or not you can get it to sink.

Online I have heard of people buying manzanita from bloomsandbranches and saveoncrafts.

I got a nice box of manzanita off of the for sale forum here for $45 that would be perfect for the look you're going for.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt is a good place to find driftwood. My favorite area was 360 and Mopac, but there are plenty of other entrances.

Thank Shawn and Mark.

Are these aquarium safe?

How do I decide a driftwood bought outside an aquarium store is safe for planted tank?

I turned to online for my purchases. LFS are very high imo. I have collected roughly 10-11 medium sized pieces of Malaysian Driftwood and of that only one was a local purchase. The others are ebay and a couple are from seacorals.com. Seacorals is a blind purchase for they select it for you but I did get workable pieces.

I also collected 12-15 pieces of Pacific Coast driftwood all on ebay from one particular seller. Seeing what your buying helps and allows you to design around that wood's character.

Mesquite, as long as it is long dead and old, works.
