Why am I getting slow ph readings from aquarium water?

I have a pretty old ,but still functional Milwaukee ph600 PH meter. When inserting it in a buffer solution 7 - Bang!in 2-3 seconds I get 7,no more ,no less.
When testing water from the tank ,in a small cup ,the meter is slow ,it takes it up to a couple of minutes to stabilize.I compared it to test strips and liquid PH test and it is accurate.Accurate but slow. Why?

Can't come to work today ,Boss......I've got Bolbitis...

Possible that there's more complicated buffers in the tank water that affect the pH...not sure.
