Derimmed tank?

I keep seeing it here and what are the pros and cons of it - the prospect of shattering the glass would terrify me!

if it's a smaller tank I wouldn't worry. Larger / taller tanks would be a much bigger risk.

Pros: Looks so much nicer
Cons: Risk

Check out my de-rimmed 20 in my sig. I'm very happy with it. That said, if you have the money to spend then a tank that was designed to be rimless would be a much safer option.

You have to break the silicone seal between the glass and the plastic rim, peal off the plastic in chunks and then scrape the rest of the silicone off. Razor blades are your best friend.

Before de-rimming a tank have a look at the upright silicone job, just to make sure it isn't too ugly. The whole point of taking off the rim is to make the tank look nicer, sometimes the amount of silicone used on the joints can be fairly ugly.

This was the description of the de-rimming in my tank journal:

If you search this site for "de-rimming" you will find a lot of other people's advice as well.
