Question Pearling?

What causes pearling? If it isn't happening, is it usually a lack of ferts, lack of CO2, or lack of adequate lighting normally? Trying to stay generic!

George Willms...

Thanks for the help, got a couple of ideas from that thread...

Spypet....

Thanks for no help, besides being an a** your link didn't do anything....

I'm going to check for any CO2 leaks tomorrow even though I get a good pH drop with my pressurized system.

sorry Strike.
my post was a search link with all the pearling topics listed.
guess it expired. pearling is such a unique word that
finding discussions of it on your own is easy.
next time use Search, Advanced Search,
then limit search by topic
and type in pearling.
you'll learn all you need,
then please ask about anything
that's still not clear to you.
good luck.

We can't just have 500000 threads about "How can I make my plants pearl?" or "Why aren't they pearling?"

We already have dozens of those. Spypet is just trying to prevent duplicate posts. I see at least half a dozen CO2 threads a week and probably a dozen lighting threads too...

It's just very tiring repeating the same things over and over. I'm guilty of posting threads on subjects that have been covered already, and I thank those who had the patience to bear with me to answer my questions. Still, the less number of duplicate threads, the better.

So no, spypet wasn't trying to be an ass to you. He was just trying to make this forum a better place so that people new to the hobby won't have to wade through 5000 threads on the same topic to find their answer.

I have the same reaction to spypet's "assistance" here and elsewhere on the boards. And to top i off his link didnt even work. If you feel the urge to correct or assist, perhaps use a kinder tone. I think the mods here are charged with "policing" the site.

In any regards, strike is a newbie geneally and we typically dont use the search functions as often as newbies. (No offence meant strike)

Happy Holidays.............

I agree with Chaz. I had to search about pearling and it takes time to find a thread with the complete information. So far, here are the threads I dug.
Some are excellent(at least, informative).
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/li...light=pearling
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/pl...light=pearling
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/pl...light=pearling
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/ge...light=pearling
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/wa...light=pearling
https://www.plantedtank.net/forums/pl...light=pearling
Most of the threads will tell you that pearling happens due to saturation of oxygen. That's one thing I find most common in the threads I have been reading since this morning. I spend a lot of time on search engines.

P.S. My apologies for posting too many thread links.

No offense taken from anyone....just was asking a question, should have checked the search function but I'm also an independent type guy who just likes to get things answered.

Next time I'll check the search but I also figured people on the board would be considerate to a random question, maybe a new answer, a new opinion...who knows?

I'll go back to my job

Stike brings up a good point. New information comes up every day, new experiences, etc. I have found that sometimes old discussions are a little "dated". Besides, its fun to exchange information.

Bluebell thanks for the links...

I'm going to concentrate on my nutrient levels and making sure I don't make an algae farm...

One thing that probably works against me is the current in my tank, defeats the bubbles before I see them (if they are there!)

as king solomon once said; "there is nothing new under the sun"
it's also no mystery the richest and most powerful web sight is
google - a search engine.

I was a newbie, and have far more to learn.
while I didn't enjoy being spanked for not using Search,
I'm grateful in the long run that I was.
I ended up learning far more on my own,
eventually contributing to this pool of knowledge,
and tried to keep from wasting other people time.
my search crusade may not be a popular roll,
but most grow to appreciate it, eventually.
even CardBoardBoxProcessor finally learned to
read this forum, instead of just posting to it.
