going away a week - suggestions...

I'll probably be out of town for a week. For my heavily planted co2 tank in the past I have had my friend come over to dose ferts / feed fish. Since its a pain to get anyone to do this frequently I doubled up the fert doses so he only had to come over like twice for the week. But he ended up only comming over once. And algea was already starting to go nuts when I got back.

What do you all think... should I try it again and stress he needs to come over atleast twice or should I shut off my co2, and turn my light down to just 1 tube? The other issue is with my puffer and goby tank, I worry if not fed for a whole week they might get desperate and try to eat the bumblee bees! Hmmm.

Feeding is easy get an automagic feeder.

Dosing, perhaps you should leave the CO2 running but reduce your photoperiod and not dose for the week.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately today is the day I am comming back from vacation so its already pretty much over. I reduced my co2 way down and only running 1 of 4 lights for the same duration. For my other tank that uses Excel and am battling algea, I just turned the lights completely off. I'll find out later today how things went, I am nervous

Feeding I am not to worried about, most of the fish can handle a week just fine. The only ones I worry about are the puffers, and yeah I do have auto feeders but didnt get them setup in time. For the longest time I couldnt find anything the puffers would eat that I could put in a auto feeder (dry), but I didnt find one thing - sun dried baby shrimp (think they were called gammarus or something like that) the puffers love em! Only problem is I cant find em in any large containers, I have to buy them in the stupid tiny weeny containers.
