Here is a computer rendering of what I am planning.

Hi,
Quit? Not a clue what you meen. :-)
I have been thinking about this one fr a while now.
This stand will hide the Whisper 10 hanging on the back and provide lighting inclosure.

What do you all think of a drawer under the tank?

That is a really unique small tank stand! A drawer under it, for food, ferts, etc. would be a great idea. You are very good at this - why not try it for money?

Are you going to put that light fixture on a track, so it can be moved back and forth out of the way, or maybe make it flippable?

Is the part of the stand that the tank actually sits on going to fit into slots on the side pieces, or had you figured out something else for reinforcement? I know it's just a 5.5 gallon - maybe reinforcement isn't needed to that extent.

have it to where the tank slides in from the back maybe a tray behind the lighting. opening of the tank slightly enclosed to lay the lighting over the tank, i like it!

Hi,
Thanks for all the wonderfull comments.

Jake: Yes, I do plan on some kind of slide or maybe a pivot to get the ligt out of the way. The sides rise up above the Whisper 10 filter so the light will be able to slide back over the fiter.

Slotting should not be nessary, I plan on pocket screws through the under side of the shelf and there is a wood member on the back of the shelf for stiffening and support.

I plan on making some changes/additions to the design. I'll post them later.

WOW, I love the design. I also do some wood working. I was wondering if I could steal your deisgn. I am setting up a 29 gallon, I think with a few mods and some reinforcing that this would make a great look for my living room. If you do mind let me know and I will come up with something else.(then again you wouldn't know if I did and never told you!!!! Just kidding, I know how upset I am when people use my designs without permission.)

That looks like walnut? If so it will certainly be beautiful when it is finished. I assume the drawer front covers the base of the tank? Will you have an opaque backing on the tank?
