Yes, they are still rescuable, and will make it back to their original large glory. Time and patience is gonna be the end key result.
Here's what I had to do to bring my amazon back to life. Uproot the plant if you haven't done so already. Remove all the dead leaves and stems. If it's down to a 3inch plant, it should still have a core.
Now, with all the dead stuff removed, get the remaining roots all nice and hanging down. With a sharp pair of scissors, cut a little bit off the roots at an angle.
Stick a fert. tab in the substrate where your gonna replant the sword, then put the sword on top of the fert. tab. Now, it's just takes time and patience. Make sure you have GOOD lighting. 2.8 watts per gallon or higher.
I do not use CO2. So I made sure there was about 2.5 watts being shined on the plant for 12 hours a day. It does not grow fast, but you should start seeing new stems shouting out of the middle in about 4 days. I then started the adding Flourish twice a week.
After a months time I had about 12-15 stems and very nice looking leaves and is around 8 inches in height!
This is my experience. Hope things go good for you.
