I have just bought two sword plants- Echinodorus Red rubin and Echinodorus Bleheri. I will receive them tomorrow. Any tips for planting? Is this a true rhyzome. Do I leave anything above the substrate? I have a 75g heavily planted tank in which I am removing some of the original plants that I started with (anacharis) and replacing with these. How close/far apart can I put these two swords? How close to the back glass?

Thanks for your help.

When planting, just bury the roots or enough of the stem to keep it anchored. Personally, I would plant them in the two back corners due to their huge potential size. How far? Enough to leave room for all their leaves to be loose and not cramped.

I need to plant these in the back on the right side as the left is occupied. What I am doing is starting to remove some of the original quick growing plants with some of the "nicer" plants. Can I put these two a few inches from each other or am I asking for trouble?

Thanks.

looking at this photo http://www.plantgeek.net/images/plantpics/redrubin.jpg
I'd say you'd want at least 6-8 inches between the base of each sword...probably a foot would be better as a minimum.

I have a Red Rubin Sword which took over a quarter of my 100 gal tank and makes me wish it I had a taller tank. My tank is 23" tall and the leaves are about that size, and it would look great if there wasn't another 4 inches of substrate at that spot (slightly terrassed).
I need to update the images in my sig, it looks MUCH different now.

To answer your question... you are asking for trouble  They get huuuuge. I would put them two feet apart, unless you enjoy them growing into each other.
