wtf, ever see this?

So tonight im resting in my chair next to my planted tank enjoying my fav show "Mythbusters", and I hear a loud crack coming from the tank. I figured it was the wood stand as wood cracks from the expansion and contraction as we all know
.
Little while later I hear another crack, this time even louder, so now im like what is going on hear, turns out my glass canopy cracked.

Im guessing the heat of the light sitting on top of it. I have a 36Watt AHSUPPLY retro in a 20 inch hood, that was sitting over a 2 ft 20 gallon tank.

So luckily i have an extra canopy, but should I install a fan or something in my hood to help disapate the heat?

I seem to recall that happening with my 29g w/ a 96w CF. But seems a bit surprising with the light level you have. Sometimes, it's just meant to be!

Any of your fish got a headache? Make sure you have a gap between light and glass for air movement......DC

My canopy broke once, but it was because I stepped on it. Open top since then.

Happened to mee too. Thermal expansion: AHSupply light too close to glass + a defect in custom cut glass. The glass almost broke in two and nearly fell into the tank just as I was lifting it up.

Yeah mine broke in half also and was hanging in the tank a few inches

Im gonna get some strips of wood to elevate mine from now on, and I might look into building a fan into the hood to help dissipate the heat.

Thanks for all your help!
